Jarvis Grant has been a photographer working in Washington,DC since 1972. In 1979 until 1993 he was the head of Howard University's Department of Art, BFA Photography program. Mr. Grant is now working with the Smithsonian Institution as an educational consultant, developing a curriculum in Museum Studies for high schoolsat the Duke Ellington School for the Arts. A Comminuty Leader for America Online's Art/Photography Teaching Forum and is a member of the National Assocation of Photoshop Professionals. He is the recent recipient of DC Commission of the Arts & Humanities 1994 & 1995 Photography Fellowship and Small Projects Grants in 1998 & 1999.
Recent exhibits include, Seeing Jazz, Ripley International Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, 1997; Through the Looking Glass, Washington Center for Photography, 1992; Kaleidoscope, Smithsonian Institution Anacostia Museum, 1991; National Exposure, Sawtooth Gallery, Winston-Salem,NC, 1990. Mr. Grant has also exhibited in China, Germany and Spain. He was featured in an article on African American fine art photography in the French art magazine, Revue Norie, Dec/91.
As a commercial photographer, he is featured in the creative directories Corporate Showcase, A.S.M.P Silver Book, Washington Source Book, and The Workbook . His clients include Coca-Cola, Burson-Marsteller, McCann-Erikson, Roberts & Raymond Associates, Dix & Eaton, American Cancer Society, and Smithsonian Press. Magazine assignments include Black Enterprise, Runners World, Muscle & Fitness, Advertising Age, and The Washington Post Sunday Magazine.
